Allan and Geraldine Rosenberg Residence

81 South Bergen Place, Freeport, NY 11520

Located in the Village of Freeport, in Nassau County, the Allan and Geraldine Rosenberg Residence is a permanently affordable residence for older adults, adding 45 units of affordable housing to Long Island’s strained supply. 30% of the units are dedicated to frail or disabled formerly homeless seniors, supported by funding through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI).
With a forward-thinking design from renowned architectural firm Studio Daniel Libeskind, this building offers an unparalleled vision for affordable senior housing that promotes socialization and aging in place. Offering Selfhelp Community Services’ SHASAM (Selfhelp Active Services for Aging Model) on site, each unit opens directly to the light-filled communal courtyard with full-height windows providing access to airy views of landscaping – creating opportunities for community connection throughout.
All aspects of this development are dedicated to bolstering seniors’ quality of life. The five-story building also incorporates Passive House design principles and has significant green and energy-efficient features, in line with Enterprise Green Communities and Energy Star Multifamily High Rise programs. This promotes sustainability and building resiliency.

More on COVID-19

At Selfhelp, we’re hopeful that vaccinations will reduce the spread of COVID-19. We’ve advocated on behalf of our clients, supporting them in planning and scheduling for their vaccines.

In February 2021, we were proud to partner with the Charles B Wang Community Health Center (CBWCHC). With CBWCHC, we opened a vaccination site from our Benjamin Rosenthal Senior Center in Flushing, Queens.

For more information on the vaccine, visit COVID-19 – NYC Health.
