孟昭文爭取85萬 整修長者公寓外牆

非營利機構自強社區中心(Selfhelp Community Services)5日宣布,聯邦眾議員孟昭文爭取到85萬元聯邦「社區項目資金」(Community Project Funding),將用於法拉盛可負擔住宅馬丁蘭德公寓樓(Martin Lande House)的外牆整修工程。儀式於4日在大樓舉行,孟昭文、市議員黃敏儀、自強社區中心執行長Stuart Kaplan、自強房地產開發部門SRG執行董事Lisa Trub,以及多名居民出席。

With electronic theft from food benefit cards rising dramatically, the Latimer Gardens Older Adult Center in Flushing hosted Selfhelp Community Services, Councilwoman Sandra Ung (D-Flushing) and law enforcement to teach people how to spot and prevent skimming from their electronic benefit transfer cards.

Selfhelp Community Services: Serving Older Adults

On September 9, 2025, NY1 featured the work of Selfhelp Community Services at its Latimer Gardens Older Adult center, which provides older adults with daily nutritious meals, English as a second language classes (ESL), computer classes, social events, and case assistance. For about 40 years, the senior center has been serving the older adult residents at NYC Housing Authority Latimer Gardens and in the surrounding neighborhood.

Selfhelp seniors take a safety stroll

Last Friday morning in Jackson Heights, 22 older residents donned yellow vests and grabbed clipboards for a safety check of the neighborhood’s renowned open street — a pandemic-era redesign that some organizers say hasn’t fully considered their needs.

AARP Commits Thousands of Dollars to Strengthen 16 Communities Across New York

AARP New York today announced 16 organizations throughout New York will receive 2025 Community Challenge grants totaling $164,600. The grants are part of AARP’s $4.2 million commitment to fund 383 quick-action projects aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages, with a focus on the needs of older adults. The funds will support efforts to improve public places, transportation, housing, digital connections and other key areas.
