An Opportunity To Improve Society. Atrium at Sumner by Studio Libeskind

In the New York neighborhood of Brooklyn, the architecture studio Studio Libeskind projects “Atrium at Sumner” as an opportunity to create a residential building that generates activity through constant connections with the streets and life of the neighborhood. The project develops a set of affordable housing dedicated to improving the quality of life of seniors.

Five on Friday: June 14th, 2024

Booking.com releases new data on LGBTQ+ travelers, Studio Libeskind designs modern affordable housing in New York, and the Wing founder Audrey Gelman tries her hand at hotels. All that and more in this week’s Five on Friday.

The Atrium at Sumner

Located in the park-like setting of the existing New York City Housing Authority’s Houses campus, the building features 132,418 square feet of affordable senior housing. The new building features 190 apartments, 132 of which are available to senior households earning below or equivalent to 50 percent of Area Median Income (AMI), and 57 units reserved for seniors who had formerly experienced homelessness. The design features a dynamic yet rational geometric form interrupted by a pattern of open and solid elements.
