AGING ON PACE
Aging on Pace envisions aging as a new beginning. One day we are 30, suddenly we are 60, and before we know it! – we are celebrating our 90th birthday.
Selfhelp’s Aging on Pace philosophy acknowledges that we each age at different paces. We each have our own passions, priorities, and preferences.
Some may decide to work into their 70s, 80s, or 90s; others might go back to school to finish an advanced degree, read the countless unread books on our bookshelves, and/or deepen our friendships and family relationships.
Selfhelp understands that a “one size fits all” approach to care doesn’t work. We believe that everyone deserves to age with dignity and independence because every person deserves compassionate, trusted, and innovative care that respects their life experiences.
What do we want?
- No ageism! We know it when we see it – and so does Selfhelp.
- We are from diverse cultures, races, gender identities, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and abilities. One size most certainly doesn’t fit all. Selfhelp staff represents the communities we serve.
- Speak my language! Selfhelp activities are offered in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, English, and more.
- We are determined to remain strong and independent. Selfhelp’s holistic health and wellness approach will support our physical, mental, emotional, social, intellectual, and/or spiritual goals and values.
- We are naturally social people. If we are feeling lonely, we can look to Selfhelp for invitations to social gatherings, coffee meet ups, walking clubs, movie nights, wellness events, educational and health classes, and more. Even a surprise birthday party or two (shhhh!).
- We want to safely travel in the virtual world. When we don’t feel like going out, or can’t, we can meet in Selfhelp’s Virtual Senior Center – a very fun collection of live and recorded online happenings, discussion groups, and useful classes.
